ARCHETYPE OR STEREOTYPE? YOU MAKE THE CALL!
June 27th, 2010 by Clark Humphrey

They’re still building large buildings somewhere! Specifically, in Chicago. That’s where the new 82-story Aqua Tower, designed by a team led by Jeanne Gang, is said to be the biggest building ever commissioned from a female-led architectural practice.

It’s full of curves.

From what I recall, she and her people got the idea of using curves from the geology of the region, not from anyone’s ridiculous and annoying stereotypes, the latter being an addition of the article’s writer. Also I was glad to note that the square form is still visible within–at least so far as my slow online connections could reveal.
It’d be neat if birds and plants made those ledges their home, just so they don’t block the view. Not that I could ever afford to live or work in such a place.
As to what sort of archetypes are represented by shapes–if such mystical things as archetypes even exist–for me it is hard to put into words but it has no real connection with the anatomy or physiology of creatures randomly evolved on a backwater planet. Straight lines and right angles are rare in “nature”(the wild) around here, though not unknown as some folks claim, and so a contrast between that and curves would not match that tween one gender and another but more like the distinction tween human and inhuman/unnatural.
My liking for straight lines and angles is only matched by my dislike for people who smear gender stereotypes over everything in sight, and those who parrot them, unless joking.
