Our big, big LOSER book reissue may “go live” any day now. Not yet, but soon. Real soon. Other people are waiting for a gallery with native American art by a real native American artist to open; to learn whether or not the GOP candidate’s coming to Washington; and to see whether the proposed new anti-“sweeps” legislation comes about. We’ve also got the usual plethora of weekend events.
Global speculators, having been made less than welcome in Vancouver, are already driving Seattle real estate even higher. In other Tuesday topix: wildfires are back; airlines (and Sea-Tac) boom while Boeing struggles; Councilmember Herbold wants a replacement for the despised old business “head tax”; and Town Hall’s selling off its parking lots for two towers.
The big anti-Amazon blogger’s making a kids’ picture book with a talking shipping box representing the company. We also examine the origin’s of Seattle’s newest newcomers; worry about hate-crime stats; listen to a Muslim “non-binary queer” person; mourn one of Belltown’s last pre-upscale businesses; and begin to lose patience with the miserable Mariners.
Making sense of the senseless: I can’t even try. But I try anyway. I also look at the paucity of women on local corporate boards; more trouble for Western State Hospital; a worker walkout at a strawberry farm; and an attack of “Diarrhetic Shellfish Poison.”
Our midweek missive contains a man charged with stealing from the sick to help the religious; a Seattle Times pundit being totally wrong about something (again); U of Oregon students behaving badly; the state of ethnic artists in a white arts scene; and the latest thing in earbuds.
The Mariners are now under new (sorta) management. But that’s not the only story this day.
