Another week of MISCmedia MAIL commences with a relatively minor topic, the coming end of plastic tableware and straws at Seattle food/beverage joints. But then the serious stuff shows up, such as more local Resistance reactions; a fight back against a conservative activist’s endless lawsuits against state liberals; strange bedfellows in the new-arena battle; and the Showbiz Lawsuit of Science!

There’s a new airline (with an old name) coming to Sea-Tac; the Legislature split without all its work done; anti-abortion-sermon spaces can’t pretend to be medical clinics (at least not here); and the 747 has one more potential use after all. But the big story in today’s MISCmedia MAIL: Spud Fish & Chips at Green Lake is going away for luxury apartments.

MISCmedia MAIL raises a glass of Real Soda in Real Bottles to the enactment of the sugary-pop tax. Other observations view the incredibly shrinking Store Formerly Known as the Bon Marché; local corporate giants vowing to keep fighting climate change; big stuff coming to the Seattle Art Fair; and what you probably haven’t heard about the Evergreen State College controversies.

Today at MISCmedia MAIL, thousands gathered in Seattle to support Black Lives Matter, most all of them white. Also: people who aren’t the Seattle Times editorial board want Ed Murray to quit; the Mariners start winning; the Army helps save fish by killing birds; and what Easter (and its pagan precursors) mean today.

Alas, handing cans of Pepsi to cops at protests probably won’t save the world. Shocking, I know. But there are more realistic topics to discuss today, including nice Canadians having border trouble; a plea to try and get more “affordable” units under the HALA plan; physicians saving refugees from being sent home to die; and Amazon vs. the Girl Scouts.

Also with us this day are freedom for Daniel Ramirez (for now); KOMO employees vs. their right-wing parent co.; an attempt to preserve KeyArena and environs more-or-less as-is; and a completely sincere farewell to the First Hill McDonald’s.

Meet the new travel ban, almost as stupid as the old travel ban. Also, meet the clever promoters who booked the nascent Ramones into the stolid Olympic Hotel; the IT guy who allegedly tried to steal data from Columbia Sportswear; the commentator who doesn’t approve of Nathan Hale High’s basketball recruiting tactics; and the Colfax boy who became a classic-film legend.

I’m sure Ed Murray’s new speechwriter knew what he was doing when he wrote that we in Seattle are “on our own” these days. And I like to think I know what I’m doing when I talk about the state’s decaying bridges; Daniel Ramirez Medina’s latest legal tactic; a lost opportunity for affordable housing on east Capitol Hill; and Stephen Colbert’s fun with KCPQ’s “exposé” of teen emoji use.

It’s a post-Monday-holiday day but we’ve still got a full e-missive, with stuff about a local author’s dystopia novel rediscovered; the least-“Made in USA” plane Boeing’s ever made; employers who really didn’t like “A Day Without Immigrants”; and the Seattle rock roots of a late jazz legend.
