TO OUR READERS
Jul 11th, 2005 by Clark Humphrey

I’m going to be working on a number of book proposals over the rest of the summer. But before I get too deep into them, I want to complete the long-promised site redesign. Lemme know what you’d like to see. (I probably won’t include live comments, just because I don’t wanna bother removing hundreds of spam ads from them.)

IN LIEU OF A NORMAL UPDATE,…
Jun 13th, 2005 by Clark Humphrey

…a word or two about what I’ve been doing.

Most of the past weekend, except for a house party on a rain-drenched Saturday, involved working on three of my 12 or so long-ignored unfinished book ideas. More about that later. (I may need a lot of reference/research help from a few loyal readers.)

At that party Saturday, I discovered Session Lager, a neo-retro beer from our Hood River, OR pals at Full Sail Brewing. Just introduced last month, Session proves that microbrewers can indeed brew “regular” American beer, and do it better than the big boys. (Of course, Full Sail has already proven this, having contract-brewed the Henry Weinhard line for two years.) Session is a crisp, clean, classic mass-appeal drink. It even comes in a classic “stubby” bottle (with a detachable paper label so it can be reused by homebrewers!) and only in 12-packs. (An Oregonian story claims the Portland branch of Owens-Illinois Glass had to get permission from Miller to make stubbies again; as a legacy from when Miller bought and closed the Olympia Brewery, it “owns the mold.”)

And as for a certain story hogging the news channels tonight, I have absolutely no comment. Until further notice (at least one day), this site will be 100 percent celebrity-free.

IT DOESN'T LOOK A DAY OVER SEVEN
Jun 1st, 2005 by Clark Humphrey

We’re having an in-person party to fete the ten-year anniversary of MISCmedia.com next Wednesday, June 8, right here at the splendiforous New MISC Towers. (I’m having a birthday that day as well, as if that matters.) The shindig will go on from late afternoon to late evening; come and leave as you wish. Email me for the address and other particulars.

JUST ANOTHER SHORTY
Apr 21st, 2005 by Clark Humphrey

I’ve finally got reliable Speakeasy broadband service in my palatial new MISC World HQ. I’m running behind on my freelance obligations due to moving hassles, so the big moving saga may still have to wait a few days.

THE BIG MOVE…

NEW MISC WORLD HQ UPDATE

This lovely site ought to have another physical home as early as the end of next week. Details forthcoming.

HAD A WICKED DREAM…
Mar 17th, 2005 by Clark Humphrey

…last night, regarding my drive to find a new home.

I was coming home to a tiny apartment, only to find the living room full of small black birds. They weren’t threatening; they weren’t even pooping. They were just crowding up the place, tired and trapped. I forced a couple of windows open and they all flew away, in a more or less orderly fashion.

I turned around to find the entry way equally filled with large crawling bugs, all the way up the narrow walls. They were also morose and benign. When I propped the door open, all the tiny critters slowly but steadily vacated.

That left me with a slovenly roommate, who had apparently been oblivious to the birds and the insects, but was adamant about something he’d just decided—that, from now on, I had to go sleep in the laundry room.

Instead, I followed the friendly advice of the birds and the bugs, and split.

No, I don’t know what it all means.

THE GOOD NEWS, PERSONAL-WISE
Mar 16th, 2005 by Clark Humphrey

MISC Towers may have found a buyer. All the usual caveats and potential deal-snaggers are still in place, but it’s a likely go.

The upshot: I’ve now gotta find a new MISC World HQ by mid-April.

I’m on the prowl for a clean, reasonably priced, not-too-darned-small rental unit within the greater Seattle urban core. (I.e., Fremont si, Normandy Park no.) I don’t smoke, have no pets, and don’t need parking. But cable (preferably Comcast, due to On Demand) and broadband access are musts.

SPENT A LONG, DULL WEEKEND…
Feb 14th, 2005 by Clark Humphrey

…recovering from a worse-than-fatal computer crash. (Apparently, the Mozilla Firefox browser ain’t all that ready for prime time.)

I’ve also withdrawn my condo from the for-sale-by-owner marketplace and signed on with the real estate industry. Here’s the new ad page for MISC Towers, which could be your very own!

JUST TO WARN YOU
Jan 22nd, 2005 by Clark Humphrey

I’ll have more dead-dad stuff in the next few days, after I take care of a few looming freelance writing deadlines.

And a deep heart-felt thanks to everyone who’s wished me well during these days. It means much. Very much.

BRUTAL DESPAIR UPDATE #1
Jan 10th, 2005 by Clark Humphrey

My mother finally agreed to place my father in a residential care facility near her home. Ten days after the move, he’s now in a “light coma.” The end is drawing ever so slowly more nigh.

BRUTAL DESPAIR UPDATE #2: I can’t afford to move out of my condo before I sell it. So I have to pack up most of my stuff and store it, while the condo gets made over into a showplace.

BRUTAL DESPAIR UPDATE #3: Selling MISC Towers will eliminate most of my debts. But I still need to start earning more money. Therefore, please hear the following:

Clark needs a day job.

Absolutely, positively, NOT KIDDING.

I don’t mean voluntary zine gigs or internships. (Don’t even ask.)

I mean hourly wages, piece rates, anything with actual monetary consideration.

I’m a creative thinker, of the pushing-the-box-outside-the-envelope type. I’m a whiz-of-all-trades at both print and online communications content. I’m a stickler for detail and precision.

I’m an expert on the inner workings of Seattle’s public and private institutions. But I’ll also be able to relocate once the current family situation’s concluded.

What I don’t know (including but not limited to programming) I’m willing to learn.

I’m responsible, mature, and conscientious.

I’m willing to start yesterday.

Words of empathy and encouragement are appreciated. But specific info that might lead to an actual job would be appreciated much more.

Serious suggestions on new career paths would also be appreciated; particularly if they’re career paths other than multi-level marketing.

Please inform me with any relevant data or instructions.
