As car-free humans get a chance to walk through the Battery Street Tunnel, we wonder what will become of the ol’ thing. We also think about Girl Scout cookie-inspired apparel; the truth of that supposedly “Hawaiian” beer; more fears of a post-ACA nation; and the human failing behind Amazon Web Service’s temporary meltdown.

One day to rest up, make plans, and enjoy the calm before the GOPocalypse. So read up today about those weird restaurant-inspection icons; a possible municipal lawsuit against OxyContin’s makers; politicians who want to ban wind farms; and a UW Muslim student on the activist front lines.

As American Apparel shuts down here and elsewhere, we look fashion-forward to discuss more attempts by GOP legislators to make the laws for (or rather, against) Seattle; a dispute among anti-inauguration marchers; diversifying Bellevue and its challenges; and a beloved local bar closes two years after it first said it would.

The Wacky Weather Weekend® is well upon us. Be safe; if you’re supposed to go anywhere, make sure what you’re going to is still going on. Otherwise, you can always stick around and read about dueling encampment proposals; an affordable-housing project that’ll also be a center for the Black community; an idea to hip-ify Bremerton (could it ever happen really?); and the centennial of one of the region’s ugliest events.

Let’s deal this day with a huge “green” building that’ll probably never get built; attempts to salvage a salmon fishing season; police (allegedly) behaving badly (but at least non-fatally); an attempted compromise to the HALA legislation; a late original Northwest Rock musician; and the silliest beer-marketing shtick we’ve seen in a long while.
