Now that would-be arena builder Chris Hansen can’t buy two blocks of a little-used city street, he says his plan will go forward, but how? Also for your Tuesday perusal: The Lusty Lady space won’t host the Punk Rock Flea Market after all; the big housing levy’s going to the ballot; a little music/art space closes; an old-school local rock promoter dies;  and more May Day anarchist aftermath.

The Mariners are now under new (sorta) management. But that’s not the only story this day. There’s also a threat to the Fremont Outdoor Cinema; the future of Seattle parks; birds doing a big hit on a (non-Boeing) jet; the mystery of the disappearing bike-lane plans; and HALA’s potential to worsen downtown’s demographic cleansing.

A new week dawns, and with it remarks about more “façaded” old buildings; a local celebrity trying to break into politics; Amazon’s growing array of store-brand stuff; a longtime enemy of transit now saying he likes SOME transit; and the Mariners’ return to the average.

You know we’re talking about yet another music/art/performance legend gone far, far too soon. Back in local stuff, there’s some funny and sobering Earth Day thoughts; an attempt to legalize sub-minimum wages; the new owners of I Can Has Cheezburger; a local nightlife mogul’s role in today’s hottest musical act; a century-old “City Beautiful” plan that didn’t make it; and the usual plethora of weekend things-2-do.

As the temps thankfully cool off (for now), our observant eyes observe the Bauhaus Coffee resurrection and its discontents; the sad end to the Ballard Locks whale story; a sort-of push against rental-housing discrimination; the Tacoma methanol plant plan’s death; and just one of Microsoft’s cash-stashing schemes.

In the heat-O-the-night, we observe a West Seattle landmark restored; an important GLBTQ institution threatened; a Hanford waste tank leaking; car-share service in the south end lacking; and Nordstrom’s Seattle office staff shrinking.

Things we wonder about: Could Boeing sell 747s in quantity again, if more of them looked like the one Iron Maiden’s touring with? Should the City buy up privately held, “affordable” apartments? Have we seen the last of the would-be Bellingham coal terminal? Does Microsoft’s proclaimed “gender pay parity” even matter when it’s got so few women higher-ups?

Don’t write off the Mariners after one game. Wait at least a week. And while you’re waiting, read up on Alaska Airlines’ big purchase; Metro’s route changes changing again?; Burien’s crusade against “junk cars”; beautifying Greenwood’s boarded-up storefronts; and a rising singing star’s food concession at the new KEXP space.

On the final day of (the real) Mama’s Mexican Kitchen, we also discuss a crusade by #ManInTree’s mom; a new low in dumb “upscale” hotel naming; a UK comedian crying at Seattle’s Tent City; more backlash against racially-insensitive place (and restaurant) names; and the late Love Israel.

It’s Easter/Passover/Presidential caucus weekend, and we’re looking at a smashing light-rail success; what little we know about “#ManInTree;” a Microsoft AI fail (due to predictable human frailties); how to rehab an ex-big box store; and the usual dozens of weekend activities.
