As the calendar turns a new page into the darker and wetter months, we can’t unsee Jeff Bezos’s (non-pocket) rocket. Plus: the feminist bookstore seen on Portlandia won’t be seen on it anymore; a lesbian pastor at PLU; how to make the police more diverse; good (non-French) press about a coffee genius; and a sorority’s “sacred secrets” get revealed (as if anyone cares).

Do you really have to be told not to drill into a new iPhone? Other topics this day include the wrong place to paint a mural with breasts; the SPD’s CIA-derived software tool for tracking your social-media posts; the “most Republican block in Seattle”; a potential future where Seattle survives while the rest of the nation goes dystopian; and the creepy threat to local goats.

We ponder what Seattle would look like without all the dredgings, regrades, and other extreme makeovers it’s had. We also explore folk turning odd spots into community gardens; a protest against holding babies in immigration jails; an innovative tech-ed program that’s threatened by redevelopment; and, oh yeah, the amazin’ Ms.

We begin with three lists totaling 100 all-time Northwest indie-rock records. We continue from there with (alas) false state-income-tax allegations; anti-Muslim bigotry hitting home; what the costly homelessness consultant didn’t directly look into; a former “Drunk of the Week” (or was she?) suing; and the Mariners’ streak continuing.

Back from Labor Day, we’ve got a whole new grab-baggy of info-nuggets, including the proposed anti-“sweeps” bill and its discontents; local tech companies merging with Australian mining firms; Boeing’s malfunctioning assembly robots; a counter-offer to those who want to keep the Mama’s building; and an offer to Seattle’s priced-out musicians from Everett.

Your Monday MISCmedia missive considers media flubs about female Olympians; an attempt to “help” needy families that’s bound to backfire; the extent of inhumanity behind the homeless sweeps; a union for techie temps; and a $37 million fine for illegal use of lawn mowers.

We’ve got a graphic example of how to avoid looking grotesquely “fake hip,” by visually celebrating your geek. Plus: how not to headline a story about a white supremacist’s violent crime; Seattle’s “most dangerous street” gets a little less so; a trans singer-songwriter tries to find his voice again (literally); and the heat’s gonna be brutal.

We can’t make sense of another senseless killing. But we do attempt to figure out KPLU’s strange new name; homeless health-care running low on funds; a big local sports weekend; and a craftsperson making “simple wooden caskets.”

Some fun and poignant things have been found by construction crews at the “Market Front” project. In additional matters, the Ms took 15 innings to win; Ernestine Anderson gets (part of) a street named for her; tribal history’s now a required subject in state schools; and nobody’s making workout clothes for larger women.

There was a lot on the water this weekend: The fast boats on Lake Washington, a beached whale at Fauntleroy, and especially the annual Hiroshima remembrance on Green Lake. Additional topics today include the Dead Baby bike spectacle; determining whether anyone’s to blame for the Oso landslide; dying trees statewide; anti-police window stickers; and the Mariners winning big on Griffey tribute weekend.

The Ballard Locks are a hundred years old, and can still get it up (and down). (Sorry.) In less groanfully punny talk, there’s one change in election results; Isaac Brock allegedly falls asleep while driving; union-busters are going door-to-door; a new study proves immigrants’ economic contributions; and Art Fair (with its satellites and alternatives) gets underway.

Damn. Another senseless shooting in my home county. Just damn. And in less tragic news, the Mariners almost win a series against MLB’s top team; a composting machine goes away; another pipe dreamer wants a state income tax; and gulls who eat their own.

With Sounders FC’s only head coach given the symbolic sacrificial rite, soccer fans here have nowhere to look but up. Maybe. Plus: The TPP fracas and WTO nostalgia; SeaTac vs. the ex-Red Robin boss; an unlikely super-PAC candidate; and the early death of a Seattle actor who made it big in TV commercials.

It’s a sad day for fans of “ghost singer” and KOMO kids’ host Marni Nixon. We also think about a victory for a police whistleblower; a potential new name for Alaskan Way; the STILL unending road work on 23rd Avenue; attempts to pump up the local arts scene; and what the Seattle U sit-in protesters still want.
