On a palindromic date we view evidence of “reverse molecules” in space; Tacoma’s downtown falcons; more Orlando reactions here and in DC; jail inmates allegedly forced to take drugs; the state’s regressive tax system used as a selling point for zillionaire homes; and a creepy “joke” by the anti-trans initiative boss.

Making sense of the senseless: I can’t even try. But I try anyway. I also look at the paucity of women on local corporate boards; more trouble for Western State Hospital; a worker walkout at a strawberry farm; and an attack of “Diarrhetic Shellfish Poison.”

Our Friday the 13th topics include the full-on start of local wildfire season; an attempt to adopt an income tax in (at least part of) Washington; school dress codes and their discontents; the death of a great Northwest novelist; and the decaying bones of drive-in theaters past.

Let’s deal this day with a huge “green” building that’ll probably never get built; attempts to salvage a salmon fishing season; police (allegedly) behaving badly (but at least non-fatally); an attempted compromise to the HALA legislation; a late original Northwest Rock musician; and the silliest beer-marketing shtick we’ve seen in a long while.

Oh no, not Roq La Rue closing! That’s worse than, well, several other bad things. Also today: Asking Bernie Sanders to run for President like he’s run for the Senate (as an indie); Ammon Bundy’s deluded strategy; an NW music legend at 93; and America’s glut of under-qualified white people in high places.

The Mariners won at home! And we also peer at more folk who want more light rail and they don’t mean decades from now; the eco-cost of the new Arboretum trail; a Seattle/Mexico joint theater project; local delivery trucks with out-of-state plates; and the business case for a $15/hr. wage.

The Comic Con costume brigades are gone, but we’re still here to mention a new look for the main ferry terminal; racial “microaggressions” on campuses; baseball’s least-loyal fans; the spread of “retail theater” concepts; and the latest big food spill from a semi.

Our promise: No “funny” fake headlines! In (presumably) “real” news: Another (non-lethal) “Ducks” crash; a family squabble keeps a historic corner un-re-developed (for now); another company wants “job saving” tax breaks; equality for soccer women; and scores of weekend things to do.

The day before Good Friday finds Seattle without the #ManInTree (but not without the problems he epitomized). Also: a settlement in a longstanding abusive-priest case; a Nixon henchman’s admission from “beyond the grave;” an art gallery’s chance to survive redevelopment; and keeping Rx drugs out of the water supply.

We welcome spring, and the expanded local light rail, with chatter about a way to prove your Northwest-bred-ness on your vehicle; a whistleblower’s blast against Hanford’s waste-treatment project; a resource center for Af-Am entrepreneurs; a new way to keep sea lions from decimating fish stocks; and a plethora of weekend activity choices.

Your midweek missive features one (last?) climactic Sonics Arena hearing; another potential big change in local radio; fighting traffic with bureaucratic buzzwords; street racing as still a thing; and a crewless (and partly yellow) submarine.

Sooper Toosday settled nothing, and neither did the City Council committee vote on saving bike sharing. But we do know that Boeing’s planning a 100th birthday bash; a heroin treatment center’s re-opening; squatters are speaking out in favor of squatting; and one of the guys who “plundered” the Sonics is in big trouble (can you feel the schadenfreude rising?).

Spring training is here! And so is MISCmedia MAIL, informing about pastors prevented from selling their church; what is and isn’t still alive in the Legislature; even more petrochemical export plants in the works; a future for King Street Station’s upstairs; and the usual scads of weekend activity listings.

A combined Valentine’s/Presidents’ weekend finds us mulling about the end of the Oregon siege at last; a GOP dirty trick against transit; deliberations about the latest anti-homelessness plan; the demise of the UW’s nuke; and fun with kitschy old Valentine’s cards.

We head into a Seahawk-less Super Bowl weekend with footage of the TP’ing of Pam Roach’s office; a known creator of toxic chemical debris wanting to build a big biofuel refinery; a plea for understanding by the mom of a heroin victim; an attempt at increased state aid to the homeless; and the usual gazillion weekend activities.
