Could we actually have the first real warm weather of the year? In any event, we’re discussing the potential for a state budget deal at long last; one of the many surviving J.P. “Patches Pals;” more about the West Seattle greenbelt tree thievery; drivers obsessed with hunting down temporary free parking; and a potential new craze in “startup religions.”

We’re back to the post-holiday daze, waiting for the dry and warm weather that’s been predicted, and reading about the mess that’s been the massive Metro-bus morphing; Portland encouraging the homeless to leave town; the living-wage movement’s progress; racist vandalism; and the premise that wildfires can be good for the rural economy.

It’s Easter/Passover/Presidential caucus weekend, and we’re looking at a smashing light-rail success; what little we know about “#ManInTree;” a Microsoft AI fail (due to predictable human frailties); how to rehab an ex-big box store; and the usual dozens of weekend activities.

The day before Good Friday finds Seattle without the #ManInTree (but not without the problems he epitomized). Also: a settlement in a longstanding abusive-priest case; a Nixon henchman’s admission from “beyond the grave;” an art gallery’s chance to survive redevelopment; and keeping Rx drugs out of the water supply.

The (potentially) only-in-Seattle spectacle of weirdness and sadness that is #ManInTree. Also in your midweek missive: The soul of Belgium; Hillary Clinton’s Muckleshoot name; an investigation into the Pronto! buyout; and Mama’s Mexican Kitchen saved! (Sort of.)

Spring is here and so are we, with a NIMBY assailant playing the “victim” card; another potentially doomed movie palace; whether or not teachers really need more pay (spoiler: they do); crow brains; and the lovely new light-rail stations.

We welcome spring, and the expanded local light rail, with chatter about a way to prove your Northwest-bred-ness on your vehicle; a whistleblower’s blast against Hanford’s waste-treatment project; a resource center for Af-Am entrepreneurs; a new way to keep sea lions from decimating fish stocks; and a plethora of weekend activity choices.

We steel up for another amateur drinking day by thinking of things worth remembering about the Irish heritage, and also about a sheriff who thinks rape victims are lying; Republicans who helped the Oregon refuge occupiers; possibly doomed Boy Scout camps; a lawyer committed to helping people; and Lady Penelope RIP.

Your midweek missive features one (last?) climactic Sonics Arena hearing; another potential big change in local radio; fighting traffic with bureaucratic buzzwords; street racing as still a thing; and a crewless (and partly yellow) submarine.

Greenwood has been through disasters, natural and other, and will survive this one.
