8/15/17: SAY THEIR NAMES, STILL
Aug 15th, 2017 by Clark Humphrey

“Seattle High School Memorial Stadium” is named for the 800 names on its front wall, of locals who died in WWII. There’s a drive to make sure the names remain in any rebuilt stadium. We discuss that in our Tuesday letter, as well as the young man from our state found among the Virginia white-supremacist marchers; memories of the NW’s last total eclipse; a consumer review of one of the new bike-share systems; and Costco caught peddling mis-branded jewelry.

7/12/17: CRANING AND STRAINING
Jul 11th, 2017 by Clark Humphrey

Your midweek missive notes how our allegedly pinko-socialist state has the top “environment for business,” and how that’s partly due to our regressive tax system. Plus: more city-sales-tax fallout; airport robots (not as pilots, yet); stopping tech-sexism from the boardroom on down; and a certain Mariners player who made a certain big play at a certain big game.

6/13/17: STRUTTIN’ IT
Jun 13th, 2017 by Clark Humphrey

Tuesday’s MISCmedia MAIL reveals the latest Seattle fashion icon (and, frankly, we haven’t had many), and it may be a surprise to a lot of you. Plus: The Space Needle’s extreme makeover; the first official steps toward a city income tax; the state budget crisis getting ever-closer to breakdown; and locals remembering the Pulse shootings.

6/9/17: FUN FLIES WHEN YOU’RE HAVING TIME
Jun 9th, 2017 by Clark Humphrey

The third year of MISCmedia MAIL begins with a few random memories of my time on this earth. It goes on to discuss an historic big painting you’ve got to see; Boeing’s research into pilot-free planes; an Islamophobic rally moved from Portland to Seattle; and the usual zillion event listings.

6/8/17: ON WITH THE SHOW, THIS IS IT!
Jun 7th, 2017 by Clark Humphrey

MISCmedia MAIL today discusses the mayor’s big (albeit still tentative) arena deal; attempts to reach common ground with local Muslims and/or Republicans; non-techbro reasons for the housing crisis; and the Mariners’ comeback all the way to .500! But these are all minor stories compared to the big event of the day, our own spectacular b-day party for both the newsletter and for myself, 6:30 p.m. tonight at the tenacious Two Bells in bountiful Belltown.

6/5/17: THIS AIN’T NO PORTLANDIA
Jun 5th, 2017 by Clark Humphrey

The alt-right rally scheduled for Portland before last week’s slayings took place, as did several counter-protests, as did arrests and seized weapons and pepper spray. Also in Monday’s MISCmedia MAIL: Anschutz doesn’t want to rebuild KeyArena after all; Dale Chihuly admits to emotional issues but denies cheating an associate; a legendary local bar will be reborn; and a proposed high-rise with a rooftop dome.

6/1/17: BRING ‘EM
May 31st, 2017 by Clark Humphrey

I think Seattle’s still a great tourist destination. Come for the fish throwing; stay for the political resistance organizing! Other stuff in our month-dawning MISCmedia MAIL includes more reaction to the outrage in Portland; why this year’s homeless count can’t really be compared to last year’s; a black author cancels her Seattle trip after death threats; and Folklife lives!

5/31/17: NOT SO ‘CRUDDY’
May 31st, 2017 by Clark Humphrey

Wednesday’s MISCmedia MAIL starts with a great honor for one of my fave cartoonist/novelist/playwrights. It goes on to mention the “dirty” aspect of cleaning up Lake Washington; big-big plans for the UW; the apparent end to one of our era’s most famous couples; and five years after the Cafe Racer slayings (so many senseless slayings ago).

MISCmedia MAIL FOR 4/14/17: THE BIG SOG
Apr 13th, 2017 by Clark Humphrey

What comes after heavy winter precipitation? Heavy spring flooding, of course. We additionally view the spreading hunger strike at the immigration jail; transit fans against proposed ST3 funding cuts; Microsoft wanting to buy its own (mostly “renewable”) electricity; shout-outs against federal cuts to farms and cancer scientists; and the usual gazillion weekend events listings.

MISCmedia MAIL FOR 3/30/17: LIFE IMITATES CGI
Mar 29th, 2017 by Clark Humphrey

It’s just a coincidence that there’s a computer-animated feature out now called “The Boss Baby,” and that the title role is voiced by Alec Baldwin, and that ads show the baby in a suit and tie with orange-ish hair. Really. In more deliberate occurrences, we note Daniel Ramirez’s freedom (at least for now); neighbors who want more public amenities in the expanded Convention Center; Jeff Bezos’ even greater (on paper) wealth; and the little Belltown restaurant that got big.

MISCmedia MAIL FOR 3/29/17: IN BLOOM
Mar 28th, 2017 by Clark Humphrey

One of the top local Sure-Signs-O-Spring® is finally with us. Also with us this day are freedom for Daniel Ramirez (for now); KOMO employees vs. their right-wing parent co.; an attempt to preserve KeyArena and environs more-or-less as-is; and a completely sincere farewell to the First Hill McDonald’s.

MISCmedia MAIL FOR 3/24/17: LOOKING ‘BACK’-WARD
Mar 24th, 2017 by Clark Humphrey

Seattle’s first big rap hit is 25 years old, gender-image issues and all. Our big weekend edition also explores just when an “anti-media-bias” message is itself a statement of bias; big growth at yet another (little-known) Amazon division; the complexities of running rail tracks on a floating bridge; and the usual scads of event listings.

MISCmedia MAIL FOR 2/28/17: TRAFFIC AND WEATHER TOGETHER
Feb 27th, 2017 by Clark Humphrey

Combine freakishly weird weather and a single accident that snarls car traffic all over town all day long, and you get just the thing to convince folk not to move here. We also talk about more anti-Semitic scare tactics; Gov. Inslee’s less-than-satisfactory day in DC; the twists n’ turns of a real-estate deal; and a squatted motel getting erased.

MISCmedia MAIL FOR 2/20/17: FARM-FRESH JUSTICE
Feb 19th, 2017 by Clark Humphrey

Another weekend of protests included a rally by the extended family that is the Pike Place Market, along with a commemoration of the WWII internments. Our Monday e-missive also delves into a plan to save part of the Ramps to Nowhere; small towns suffering under Tim Eyman’s tax limits; a tragedy in my ol’ hometown; and the snarky heroism of Mark Cuban.

MISCmedia MAIL FOR 1/19/17: THE DAY BEFORE
Jan 18th, 2017 by Clark Humphrey

One day to rest up, make plans, and enjoy the calm before the GOPocalypse. So read up today about those weird restaurant-inspection icons; a possible municipal lawsuit against OxyContin’s makers; politicians who want to ban wind farms; and a UW Muslim student on the activist front lines.
